“Romulus: The First Alien” Trailer Looks Creepy, Bloody, and Brilliant

For years, we’ve known that Fede Álvarez was at the helm of an Alien movie, but had no clue what it would look like or be about. That changes right now.

Disney, yes, Disney, has just dropped the first trailer for Alien: Romulus, hitting theaters on August 16. Directed by Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe), the movie stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War) and Isabela Merced (Madam Web) as the latest badass women to take on acid-blooded xenomorphs, joining the ranks of Sigourney Weaver and Noomi Rapace. But what’s it all about? We’ve heard tons of rumors, but now, here’s your first taste of Alien: Romulus.

The official description reads: “While scavenging through the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonizers encounter the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Yep, that sounds about right. Here’s the first poster too.

Since the film isn’t out for another five months, there really isn’t much there. Is the movie, as Spaeny stated, really set between Alien and Aliens? How did the xenomorph end up on this ship? There are a lot of questions in terms of specifics. However, in terms of regular people on a spaceship fighting a killer alien species? This trailer delivers.

We love the long camera movements, the flying face huggers, even the weaponry feels very Alien. Honestly, this could have nothing to do with the other franchise films and just be a sort of rip-off of the idea from the First movie and we’d all be on board. But hopefully, it’s a mix of both.
