Mistika
used in stunning DI & Stereo 3D in The Adventures of Tintin, at Award-winning
Park Road

SGO's Mistika technology was used for all the DI and Stereo
3D post production by industry leading post production company Park Road Post
in The Adventures of Tintin. All digital intermediate work in both 2D and Stereo
3D was achieved using Mistika, which included colour grading, conforming, convergence
adjustments and hand-offs between shots.
Directed by Academy Award®
winner Steven Spielberg, the film is based on the series of books The Adventures
of Tintin by Hergé and is also produced by Steven Spielberg, Peter
Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy, with Ken Kamins, Hergé Estates Nick
Rodwell and Stephane Sperry as executive producers.
A
real highlight of the post process on The Adventures of Tintin, was that the film-makers
were able to offer approvals remotely. Mistikas role was an important one,
as speed was a crucial factor in making the approval process work fluidly, no
matter where the film-makers were in the world. The ability to output ongoing
and work-in-progress (WIP's) versions of the film easily and quickly, without
actually slowing or stalling the DI process, was key.
Park
Road Head of Picture and Senior Colourist, David Hollingsworth explains: The
open structure of the Mistika platform, the speed of its toolset and SAN-based
workflow meant that we could be working on shots as soon as they were handed over
from Weta Digital and have the 2D and 3D grades working concurrently. David
adds: The flexibility of the system also meant that I could be grading while
Senior Online Editor, Rob Gordon could be conforming new shots into to the cut,
and at the same time, Stereoscopic artist, Meetal Gokul could continue the convergence
hand-offs and other stereo work. All of this happened as we were outputting WIPs
for the Directors approval overseas. I dont see how any other single-solution
DI system could have allowed us such speed and flexibility.
Geoff
Mills, Director of SGO Global Sales & Operations states: The Adventures
of Tintin was an incredibly exciting project bringing with it technical
challenges that were overcome. The implementation of Mistika at Park Road Post
on such eminent projects, makes us feel very proud indeed, and raises the bar
of our software to ever higher levels each time it is used for distinguished work
of this calibre.
High quality post
production is indispensable and a vital component for the final outcome. Park
Road Post and Weta Digital have been investing and leading in the latest technology,
and never compromise when it comes to the finest quality Stereo 3D and DI. They
certainly deliver outstanding 3D films that will be portrayed as major milestones
in the history of film-making. Miguel Angel Doncel, CEO of SGO concludes.
