Alongside the introduction of updated Time Capsule models Apple appears to have finally discontinued Shake, its long-standing high-end digital compositing and visual effects software package.

SCRI's 2009-2010 Broadcast / Pro Video Marketplace Report, based on extensive interviews with enduser facilities in seven vertical markets is reporting that equipment purchases by end-users among cable & TV broadcast stations as well as film & video production / post and corporate and institutional video (govt. medical, educational) sectors for the 25 Product Types tracked by SCRI, was down from $10.3 billion in '07 to $10.1 billion in 2008 and projected to decline to $9.9 billion in '09.
However, SCRI forecasts for 2010 put the total market up by around 4.5% from the low of '09 to around $10.4 billion. Read on... |

At SIGGRAPH 2009, Autodesk has launched Autodesk Mudbox 2010 software, the latest version of its digital sculpting and painting application.
The 2010 release makes it easier for artists to use Mudbox alongside Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Softimage software. Mudbox 2010 now also features a host of new creative tools and workflows, as well as a software development kit (SDK) that enables production teams to customize and integrate Mudbox into pipelines. | DALSA Reports Second Quarter 2009 Financial Results |

In the Digital Imaging business, revenues in the second quarter were $20.7 million, with a net loss of $0.1 million, compared to revenues of $31.1 million and net income of $3.4 million in the second quarter last year.
Despite the sharp year over year decrease in revenue that affected all geographic regions, revenues in Digital Imaging improved almost 7% from the first quarter due to quarter over quarter increases in shipments into the Asia/Pacific region.

| Systems integrator TV Magic announced that it has provided consulting and integration services for the new Centro de Comunicación Audiovisual y Multimedia (Center for Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia, or CECAM) at Mexico's Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA Tijuana) in Playas de Tijuana, Baja California.
The studio and post-production facility serves as a teaching and training tool for UIA Tijuana film and television production students and supports their creation of news programs, talk shows, and other broadcast content.

Steve Shaw, CEO of specialist UK-based digital film consultancy Light Illusion, has acted as Chief Colourist on the Indian feature film 'Ninaithale Inikkum' at Gemini Film Lab, Chennai.
Under an agreement with Gemini, Shaw acted as DI supervisor and chief colourist on the project, setting the film's look with cinematographer Balasubramaniam, in conjunction with the film's Director GNR Kumaravelan.
