TerraBlock launches version 4.2 and OSX Shared File System
Facilis Technology, a provider of shared media storage technology
for post-production and content creation, has delivered the
next installment of the Facilis Shared File System with cross-platform support - version 4.2
Explore New Features of 4.2
Through 2009, Facilis Technology has strengthened its feature
set by including an innovative shared file system that allows
TerraBlock Virtual Volumes to be accessed from multiple writers
across both Fibre Channel and Ethernet. As part of this new
technology, traditional high-performance Single-user Write
volumes existing on the TerraBlock may be switched to Multi-user
Write on the fly and on a per-volume basis. TerraBlock is
the only SAN to provide a choice of high performance or fully
collaborative sharing through software attribute.
Facilis Technology continues to grow its install base of shared
storage networks in a host of creative environments worldwide.
TerraBlock 4.0 customers include: Sony DADC, Modern Video,
National Geographic, Chocolate Studios, Microsoft, San Francisco
Giants and NASA. Each facility deploys their TerraBlock solution
in a unique way, but all benefit from the new Facilis Shared
File System introduced in version 4.0.
In addition to other workflow enhancements, Facilis Technology
is helping facilities take advantage of the new file-based
camera acquisition by allowing real-time playback of any resolution
streaming or sequential file format. From 35Mbit Sony EXCam
to 4K RED ONE, TerraBlock is built to deliver high performance
and instant facility-wide availability.
A new generation of post production workflow requires
a new generation of shared storage systems, said James
McKenna, Vice President of Facilis Technology. File-based
video requires hard drive storage in place of tape and VTRs;
file-based film acquisition removes the digital intermediate
phase and creates an intense workflow of data masters and
proxy generation. This requires advanced storage systems and
complimentary asset management and archive solutions. TerraBlock
is well positioned to serve as the hub of these workflows.
