Launched in 2010, Dynasty Visual Effects & Animation provides producers and visual effects supervisors with exceptional effects and animation for far less money than can typically be obtained domestically. Dynasty’s prices are even lower than outsourcing to India, South Korea, the Philippines – basically anywhere on the planet.

Dynasty accomplishes this through its unique structure. With its headquarters in Sherman Oaks, Calif., Dynasty is an American company that happens to have its production department in China. Co-founders Mark Hundahl, Leo Chen and Bruce Silverman spent two years researching Chinese visual effects and animation companies and cherry-picked the best of best to form the Dynasty collective.

“What makes us different from typical outsourcing is that a producer or visual effects supervisor doesn’t have to deal with a foreign entity,” says Dynasty CEO Bruce Silverman, a longtime advertising industry creative leader whose credits include “Don’t Leave home Without It” for American Express. “Our clients deal exclusively with us. Our producers – all Americans – are here in Los Angeles and are the ones interacting with our clients and our production teams in China.”

Even though work is sent halfway around the world, finished projects are often delivered unexpectedly quickly. Dynasty’s production resources are substantial, and the standard Chinese work week is six days with multiple shifts, meaning more artists per project. “Our artists, technicians and production supervisors work while our customers sleep,” Silverman says. “Each morning, we review the previous evening’s work, which then gets posted for viewing by our clients. Together, we provide notes, and improvements are made overnight. It’s a very efficient process.”

China has a population of over 1.3 billion and a huge domestic film and video industry. By making the talents of China’s best visual effects and animation companies available worldwide, Dynasty can often save clients anywhere from 15 to 30 percent. For advertising, this enables Dynasty to often make certain “budget-challenged” commercials affordable. Film and television producers are finding that Dynasty enables them to get more and better effects for their dollars.

“Most of the supervisors who work for us have trained in the U.S. and Canada at really good firms like Digital Domain, Sony Digital and Rhythm and Hues,” says Silverman. “They do things the right way with the utmost security, and the quality of work is outstanding, from basic background finishing and wire removal to full-blown character modeling and animation. We just do it for a lot less and little more quickly.”

Dynasty is currently involved in producing visual effects shots for two feature films, kid cartoon webisodes and a number of commercials. For more information, visit www.dynastyfx.com.
