da Vinci Systems today announced it will join forces with Gamma & Density, Panavision®, and Modern VideoFilm to host Straight Forward, a master class seminar on how full-cycle workflow based on ASC CDL protocol benefited the highly anticipated, big-budget film "State of Play." The seminar runs from 1:45 — 5 p.m. Sunday, June 22, as part of Cine Gear Expo 2008 in Southern California.

Full-cycle workflow integrates Gamma & Density's 3cP (Cinematographer's Color Correction Process) with the da Vinci Resolve® and 2K PlusTM systems to enable consistent color across shooting, dailies, post, and DI. At the Straight Forward seminar, the companies will demonstrate in detail how Rodrigo Prieto (ASC AMC) exploited the power of on-set color correction and calibration for "State of Play," which stars Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, and Helen Mirren. The seminar will be moderated by Yuri Neyman, CEO of Gamma & Density, and Marker Karahadian, executive vice president of Panavision, Inc. Also on hand to answer questions will be Neil Kempt from da Vinci Systems.

"If you are a director of photography, digital image tech, color timer, or post-production supervisor, this is a must-attend seminar focusing on the practical application of what is sure to become must-have technology," said Dean Lyon, da Vinci Systems director of marketing.

3cP is a laptop-based system that allows a cinematographer or DP to make color grading decisions on-set and then accurately pass them on to the dailies timer and the colorist directly involved with post-production. Using 3cP, everyone in the post-production environment has a precise preview of color decisions for dailies, pre-post, matching special effects, and Digital Intermediate (DI) final color grading.

The ASC CDL (American Society of Cinematographers Color Decision List) protocol was developed by members and contributors of the ASC Technology Committee, including Gamma & Density Co. and da Vinci, to provide an industry standard for cross-platform exchange of primary RGB color correction.

The June 22 master class seminar will take place at Panavision, 6219 De Soto Ave., Woodland Hills, Calif.
