Revolutionizing Networked Real-time DPX
Workflows
XDT Pty. Ltd., a developer of advanced software-based solutions
for digital film, has announced Version 1.7 of its flagship
Catapult Server software, including several groundbreaking
enhancements to the revolutionary Catapult protocol.
v1.7 features include:
* Support for high-speed WAN transfers and review including
256-bit AES encryption.
* Flipstream with support for playlists with mixed resolution
and format.
* Updated C++ and C# SDK.
Redefining point-to-point frame data transfers and uncompressed
frame review, Catapult Server is a software solution that
delivers the same local throughput performance of storage
arrays to connected systems utilizing standard networking
infrastructure.
Erik Otto, Managing Director of XDT, states, With Catapult
Server now available as a standalone software product, customers
have got the flexibility to front-end their SANs using an
inexpensive Linux server to access media at SAN speeds from
any copper-connected client. This significantly increases
productivity when reviewing scanned frames for QC, pushing
sequences to 2D/3D workstations and allowing for uncompressed
review from any desktop without abusing grading
suites.
He continues, Extending the Catapult protocol to work
with encrypted WAN transfers was the next logical step for
us. Traditional workflows including standard FTP servers meant
costly delays in slow network transfers from and to the actual
FTP server. Using Catapult Servers on either side instead
allows for fastest possible transfers from and to centralized
storage systems with the option to QC incoming material on
both the sending and receiving end. WAN throughput is maximized
on even high-speed (1+Gbit) networks with high latency (200+
ms). Bandwidth management provides precise on-the-fly control
of WAN utilization, allowing for dynamic adjustment of in-progress
transfers.
