Ludwig Kameraverleih, a leading a camera equipment rental company located in Munich together with their affiliate soundLab Postproduktion are the first German companies to install a RED workflow with CLIPSTER.
The DI workstation from DVS enables the processing of high-resolution 4K RED data in real time. Now, Ludwig Kameraverleih is able to offer fast and flexible workflows with RED material to its clients for their TV and film projects.
With CLIPSTER soundLab Postproduktions GmbH, an affiliate to Ludwig Kameraverleih has adopeted an advanced RED workflow with full 4K resolution in real time. Both soundLab and its clients benefit from an innovative file-based workflow without tedious copying or lengthy waiting.
Ludwig Kameraverleih uses the RED data for its TV productions and employs CLIPSTER as a powerful digital film lab that allows for a real-time processing of RED RAW data making it ten times faster than before. The RED data are transferred directly on set via USB to CLIPSTER that enables the crew to view the images in full quality, i.e. RGB 4:4:4 12 bit, and run instant quality control. Equipped with an extensive burn-in, the dailies are generated as DNxHD 220 Mbit/s 10 bit 4:4:4 in real time, saving a substantial amount of time and energy. Moreover, soundLab Postproduktion benefits from generating high-quality broadcasting material right out of the RAW material.
Finished TV projects are recorded from CLIPSTER directly onto an HDCAM SR. CLIPSTER allows the user to adjust all RED camera parameters afterwards in real time. An additional color correction enables the operators to create the best film look in real time. The new RED workflow with CLIPSTER perfectly complements Ludwig Kameraverleih’s and soundLab Postproduktion’s existing infrastructure and offers an unparalleled workflow: instant quality control, true RGB 4:4:4 in 12 bit in full resolution, and accelerated processes.

Now, customers can also achieve maximum flexibility and speed by using CLIPSTER’s RED workflow for film applications. Once the edit decision list (ALE/XML) is created in offline editing, it can be transferred to CLIPSTER. The online conforming of the RAW data can proceed directly on CLIPSTER, thanks to its convenient conforming tools. A split screen allows the operators to compare the 4K RAW 12 bit material with the offline editing. CLIPSTER will generate the required DPX data for color correction in high speed. Within CLIPSTER, primary color correction as well as scaling are processed in real time.
Claudia Vonend, CEO of soundLab Postproduktion: ”We are enthusiastic over the new RED workflow. CLIPSTER fills a big gap in the field of TV production and it now becomes even more interesting for our clients to settle on RED. While it took us up to one night to create our dailies we can now process them in real time on set. We are able to save time, costs and have immediate quality control on hand.”
Michael Bauer, DVS Sales Director Region Central Europe: “Ludwig Kameraverleih and soundLab Postproduktion are the first German companies that offer a complete real-time RED workflow to its customers. We are delighted to contribute to this success with our innovative DI workstation CLIPSTER.“
